I didn't know Rufio was on SYTYCD!

It's a good thing IMDB exists so that I can know the movie Hook came out in 1991.

Even more Disney shirts

I did these for my friend Carly's two daughters and two nieces so I thought I would share. I never get sick of home-making shirts. Nemo is my favorite of the bunch.

Craigslist treasures

We recently sold a couple things on Craigslist (including our futon, woohoo!) and decided to use the money to purchase a sectional and ottoman from a nice couple here in Folsom. We weren't intending to buy anything at first (we even had a "signal" in case it was a total bust); we just wanted to check it out. But it was such a slammin' deal on a clean, hardly-used-at-all piece of furniture that we decided to go for it. It pretty much takes up our entire family room (especially with the ottoman—we put it in the other room), but we love it. I'm a big fan of gray and black, and I like that our apartment doesn't look as much like a college dorm anymore.(These are the same color in real life and the fabric doesn't look nearly as crazy as it does in the picture.)

Just dance

On Monday night my parents jump-started our holiday extravaganza by taking a bunch of us to see "So You Think You Can Dance" on tour here in Sacramento. The contestants of season 5 are my favorite (especially Phillip and Ade), so needless to say the night was magical. As soon as the theme music started I was gripping the edge of my seat. When the dancers came on stage for the first time, I was almost as nervous and excited as if I were up there on stage. Oh, and also, we were sitting in the third row. Not too shabby!
One thing I was really impressed with was how fast-paced the show was. As soon as the lights would go out, the dancers for the next dance would sprint on stage and start dancing as soon as the lights came on. I mean, I know they do it every night, but they really had it down to an art. And they performed all of the dances I was hoping to see (Phillip and Jeanine's "Mad" and Kayla and Kupono's "Gravity" are among my favorites). Also, Jeanette is hilarious. I liked her a lot better "in person" than on TV.
I loved the show and would definitely experience the whole night over again if I could. Thanks Mom and Dad! (By the way, today is their 39th anniversary... work it!)

"Welcome to our castle"

When I was a sophomore at BYU I lived on a street called 50 East. During my time there, I quickly befriended a spunky redhead who was incredibly talented and witty. We developed our friendship while attending ward prayer, open mic nights, and 80s classic skating. Toward the end of the year, we even double dated together (relationships which I think only lasted as long as they did because she and I had so much fun together while being “courted” by the two young men).

We both applied to study abroad in London for Fall 2004 and we had a blast traveling around Europe together with some close friends we made there. We were roommates the following semester at BYU. When I got married a couple years later, she played the piano and sang a beautiful song for our reception that she had written herself. A lot of stuff has happened since, but pretty much all you need to know is that she has truly been one of the best friends I’ve ever had.

Sometimes when I’m running up the stairs to my current apartment, I have flashbacks to when I could hear her footsteps sprinting up the hallway to my apartment from around the corner and then bursting through the door dramatically. I really miss that, especially since she’s now a big shot in New York City and the likelihood of it happening again is small. But today is her 25th birthday, so even though I won’t be bursting through her door with Taco Bell, ice cream, and a sweatshirt hug, I still want her to know how much I love and miss her! So Laura Ann Ostler, happy birthday to you: the sassiest little filth I’ve ever met (and you know I mean that in the nicest way possible). I hope all of your wishes and dreams come true!

H-ween

My siblings got the hint from my last post and sent me some Halloween pictures. Here they are for your viewing pleasure:Folsom Trunk or Treat: I was Thanks-a-lot Bear and Rob--too ashamed to dress as a care bear--decided to be simply ... a brown bear. He was a little upset when people kept thinking he was a teddy bear.

Carving the final pumpkins on Halloween day. Also, I am cutting my hair off one month from today. It is finally long enough. Hooray! The trick-or-treating party.
Good ol' Bruce and his girlz.

By the way, some of you would be interested to know that I did revive the Rainbow Brite costume for work on Friday, and it was better than ever. I love having that costume handy for such occasions. Although one girl thought I was Sailor Moon. Um... really?

Just some things on my mind

Neither Rob nor I took a single picture of our Halloween weekend, but we had a great time at our ward activity in Folsom and trick or treating with many child-relatives of ours in Danville. We dressed up as bears and were solicited for hugs multiple times. I miss Halloween already.

I'm not feeling well today so I bought some herbal tea in hopes of reviving my health. It smelled like it would be delicious but basically just tasted like hot water. Why do people drink it? Is it truly that good for you? I feel tricked and want my $2.24 plus tax back.

Don't read the book (or watch the movie) Confessions of a Shopaholic. It is a waste of time, even if you are looking for a "fluff" book.

I'm thinking about doing a "giveaway" on my blog for a custom painting done by me. What do you think... too trendy? Will I be embarrassed that not enough people enter? Probably. It would just be for funsies and to motivate me to do more art.

That's all for tonight.
